feels_like_fire and I finished Whoever Fights Monsters, technically the sequel to her Slow Dancing in a Burning Room but sort of a standalone, a White Collar/James Bond (OOQ) crossover. It's over 107,000 words long, which, holy shit. And of course we've already started planning for part III. Of course.- I'm staring at two things right now (most others have sort of fallen off the radar at the moment; yeah, I know): my avengersfest assignment, and a quasi-original-fic sort of thing. With the latter I'm desperately trying to get rid of the endemic racism in a world where there are elves and vampires and werewolves, but only since the '60s or something. (Yeah, I'm doing the crappiest worldbuilding ever. I do not care at all.)
- Related to that, feels_like_fire and I are celebrating what we're calling TROPEFEST 2013: write whatever the hell you want and worry about how many tropes it's falling into later. Anyone who wants to join is free to! I'd have banners and icons but I'm terrrrrible with that sort of thing.
- The kitten (who is almost three, by the way) has been eating cookies out of the cupboard. Even though we put a rubber band across the handles so she shouldn't be able to get in. That doesn't seem to stop her. *sigh*

I apologize for the extreme randomness, but I can't complain about this on fb for various reasons (mostly being that the mother of the recipient is one of my friends--well, actually my cousin, but still) so:

Nov. 15th, 2012 12:51 pmDue to some poorly-thought-out clicking on my part, I get emails from Fab.com (look, I really wanted to see the camera-lens-shaped coffee mug, okay?) and yesterday the headline was something about Fangirl Fashion.
Well, okay, I'm a fangirl, I guess (some days I prefer 'fanpoodle' because it's less gendered). So I clicked, and ended up looking at some kind of neat Princess Leia hoodies, complete with ear-buns, but there was a quote from the person who started the company (Her Universe) that made me want to puke:
It's a fact that close to half of Sci-fi fans are female! Men no longer dominate this genre. There are a lot of girls who, just like me, have a Boba Fett-ish or secretly dream of being The Doctor's next companion. So I created Her Universe!

SURPRISINGLY FOR SOME PEOPLE, it's the twenty-first century and women are allowed to do things now, like be CEOs of Fortune 500 companies or the Secretary of State or legitimate contenders for president or Supreme Court justices. Women can be the heroes of the story, not the fucking sidekick/love interest.
And they can do it with short hair, wearing cargo pants and tank tops, or they can do it in Chanel skirt suits and Louboutins, or anywhere in fucking between.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go write Natasha or Winona or Allison stepping on someone's face.

A California King-sized bed is actually four inches narrower than a standard king-sized bed. And four inches longer, but that seems a tad irrelevant for most people's fic-writing purposes, unless you're writing basketball-player RPF or something.

That is, if one doesn't exist already. (I bet it does. Also, I'm kind of lazy and it sounds like work.)
This has been brought to you by For You I Came This Far and 7000 words out of FSM only knows how many (because the stupid thing spawned a plot, wtf) of Tony/Pepper/Bruce and 3000-ish words of, of all things, a Sherlock AU that promises to be appropriately massive as they've barely met and I have so many more bad puns to fit in. Also the letter F, as in, "F you, brain. I was perfectly happy with only one fandom."
Also a severe amount of indecision regarding the current round of Star Trek Big Bang. The timing is fine; I'm just lacking in plots at the moment.

Aug. 12th, 2011 03:15 pmToday is both Jane Wyatt's birthday (Amanda Grayson 1.0, although the Star Trek feed on FB identified her as 'Spock's mother') and Bruce Greenwood's (identified as Captain Pike, rather than, I don't know, Kirk's mentor? that guy who whistled loudly and picked Kirk up off the floor?).
Look, I know I'm being picky here but it would be nice if Amanda would have been identified by her name first and her relationship toa man a major character second. Because it's the effing Star Trek feed on Facebook. I'm pretty sure that everyone who reads it knows who Amanda is. Even people who only know her as Winona Ryder. (And Amanda showed up more often than Pike in TOS-land, ffs: one episode of TOS and two movies, as opposed to however you want to categorize "The Cage"/"The Menagerie.")
I cannot tell you how much I want to have some Amanda fic to post, but even though there are still nine hours until midnight here, I don't know if I can manage it.
