GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra: I watched this entire movie and I still have no idea what it was actually about. I think mostly because I just plain didn't care. *shrugs* Although Channing Tatum appears to have a sense of humor and can sort of dance, he's basically the epitome of Not My Type. I don't think I'd particularly recommend it.
Inglorious Basterds: I thought the casting was, with one exception, very, very good. The plot, at least a B+. The fact that it was in the three languages I can sort of understand (native English speaker, proficient in French, about 3 semesters of German ten years ago) made me extraordinarily happy. However, the violence was a little gratuitous, and as much as I should have known that--Quentin Tarantino--I still didn't like it. Also, I thought Brad Pit was miscast. (And I kept expecting Mike Myers to burst out in a Scottish accent or something.) YMMV, obviously, but it's worth seeing if you're okay with watching people get scalped and the like.
The River: I don't like soap-opera style shows where if you didn't see the week before, you're extremely lost. (You know, like Lost.) So likely I won't actually watch the rest of this until the end of the season. Yeah.
The plot is . . . kind of trope-tastic and all and Bruce Greenwood only shows up in video clips and flashbacks, but it was vaguely enjoyable. I'm just not sure where it's going--I mean, I don't really see how they can make it last more than eight episodes. *shrugs* We'll see.
This week's NCIS: Holy crap, 200 episodes?! And it was a Christmas Carol episode. *yawn* I didn't like some of the themes (basically, "sorry, dude, you had to have a life of suck so other people could be happy!") but there were a lot of shippy jokes in it. There's an AU where everyone is paired off and it was pretty funny. Also, I still loveRon Butterfied Michael O'Neill. But anyway. I'm almost getting sick of the Gibbs!whump and wondering if he basically has to die to get some sleep.
It's surprising how much better I feel for having gotten that all off my chest.

Date: 2012-02-10 05:05 am (UTC)I'm totally with you on this one...him and Taylor Lautner...(although to be honest very few men under 30 do anything for me...hmmm...with the exception of Chris Hemsworth - esp. in his Thor incarnation).
I have just finished watching The River and was surprised that I actually pretty much enjoyed even the bits without BG. Of course I love Paul Blackthorne, especially when he's using his own accent. I liked the "on camera" conceit, I like the idea that basically no-one is who they seem to be at first - the tease of multiple possibilities of people having affairs behind other people's backs was well done. I thought the second ep was better than the first, partly because the doll thing really creeped me out - there will be no plastic dolls sleeping in our bed tonight, or teddybears - Sam can bring one of her fluffy dogs in with her.
And of course, there's all the Bruce Greenwood goodness, the guitar, the smile and the gratuitous moment of shirtlessness...
Rumour has it if they get renewed then they're going to head off to some other part of the world to explore the supernatural mysteries there (don't ask me how they plan to pull off the transition).
I knew what was coming with NCIS and I liked it other than finding it a little rushed. I thought the most affecting moment was when the Marines showed up at Shannon's door, the whole idea that if they hadn't died then it would have been Gibbs instead. But yes, I think it's time for him to actually get a life that he can enjoy and ditch the insomnia...

Date: 2012-02-10 03:53 pm (UTC)Ah, right. I did enjoy Paul Blackthorne, too. And I even liked the first camera guy, although I was convinced he was going to die for a few minutes there. (Kinda glad he didn't.) The dolls were appropriately creepy, and in a lot of ways I did like the 2nd half better (it pulled itself together), but what I mainly didn't like was Jahel (was that her name?). I thought she was just too stereotypical. Oh, look, it's River Tam, only less crazy and deadly, and more 'exotic.' On the other hand, without her, there were six men and two women on the show, both of whom were light-haired and white.
I didn't mention the shirtlessness because it was . . . well, rather like the fact that the cast spent half the show jumping into the river, it wasn't really intended to be hot. (I should mention that I like the fact that there really wasn't a lot of fanservice re: Lincoln and whatsherface.) But I mostly kept thinking about river parasites when they kept jumping in the water.
The moral ambiguity of pretty much everyone on the show was . . . fine, I guess. I just wasn't really all that excited about anyone or anything on the show yet. We'll see.
Yeah, the part with Shannon and Kelly was pretty much the harshest, although Gibbs talking to his mother was pretty heart-wrenching, too. OH LOOK SHE WAS A REDHEAD. Man's got some issues.
