Stop it! I'm supposed to be working on, oh, any of a zillion other stories (like, you know, One/Kirk or Kirk/Pike or, heaven forbid, a big bang or two) and instead I get this.

I hope you're happy with yourself.

Love,

eta: OBSESSIVE ARCHIVING. It's . . . PG-13? Gaila/Pike, although almost all UST.

"So," Captain Pike said, as they walked to his 'car, "the ticket read, 'found nude in a tree' before I convinced them to drop it." He looked at Gaila, wrapped in a blanket from the police station. "Are you going to tell me why you were up there?"

"I'd rather not," she said, shivering despite the blanket. Pike rolled his eyes at her words but took off his leather jacket and draped it around her shoulders. "Thank you," she said, shooting him a delighted grin. "It smells like you."

"It's my jacket," he felt compelled to point out. "Of course it does. Cadet Gaila, I'm not exactly sure how but it has to be against Academy regulations to be found nude in a tree. At the very least, you're out past curfew."

"I am," she said. "Are you going to write me up?"

It was impressive, how she could make what should be an innocent question sound like the dirtiest innuendo. "I don't know. Are you going to tell me how you got in the tree?"

"I climbed," she said, and Pike almost smacked himself in the forehead for asking a stupid question. They reached his 'car, and he held the door open for her. "Such a gentleman," she said as she swung her--bare!--legs in.

"Cadet," he said, a gentle warning, but she winked at him as he shut the door. Incorrigible, he thought as he walked around to the other side of the 'car and got in, steeling his nerves for the trip home. In a subcompact hovercar. With a flirtatious Orion cadet, wearing only a blanket and his--his--leather jacket. He should have borrowed Archer's 'car, the one that even Archer referred to as a 'boat.'

"So you climbed into the tree," he said as he sat, flipping the 'car on. "Were you already nude at that point?" His mind did not helpfully supply images. No; no, it didn't.

"Of course," Gaila--Cadet Gaila, he reminded himself sternly--said. "Who climbs trees in a flimsy party dress and impractical shoes?"

What color was the dress? asked his libido, thinking of long months since he'd last--No. "You were at a party before that?"

"Of course," she said again. "It's Saturday night. Where were you this evening?"

At home, grading papers. "That's none of your business, Cadet. Did you consume anything at the party that might possibly have caused impairment?" God, he sounded so stuffy. Cait would laugh, he thought. One would laugh. Hell, probably even Archer would laugh.

"Yes," she said. "What kind of party would it have been without alcohol?"

Another stupid question, another mental forehead-smack. "So you were drunk and you thought it would be a good idea to climb a tree, so you stripped naked, did so, and passed out up there?" There really was no way he could stop the parade of images, so he did his best to ignore them.

"I didn't pass out," she said, affronted. "Orions don't pass out from alcohol. I was having difficulties getting down and--and a friend of mine said he'd get help. The police got there first."

"Where was this friend of yours while you were at the police station?" Pike asked.

"He's avoiding the police," she said. "His advisor threatened to ground him if he--oh!" She clapped her hand over her mouth.

Right. Because he was the advisor in question and the friend was none other than Jim Kirk. He shook his head and tamped down the completely-irrational jealousy of Cadet Kirk, who had gotten to see Cadet Gaila climb a tree naked, with all that lush green skin against the bark and muscles working smoothly, red curls contrasting--Goddamnit. "I'll talk with him later," he said.

"Oh, please, not because of me!"

"I think I need to make him understand that picking up your friend from the police station is not the same as being picked up yourself."

"Oh," she said. "That is very thoughtful of you. I don't think I will be at the police station again any time soon, but it might happen. Should I have them call him instead of you?"

No! his brain screamed. "If he wasn't with you in the first place, call me. Only don't, Cadet, because if I have to--" rescue "--retrieve you again, it'll go on your permanent record."

"All right," she said, and added, "Thank you."

"You're welcome," he replied automatically. They'd reached her dorm, so he landed the 'car and shut it off. Flipping open his comm, he sent a quick burst to the front desk so they'd let her in. "All right, Cadet, they'll let you in, but you'll still have to serve punishment duty next week for the curfew violation. No one other than us needs to know about the rest of it."

"Thank you again!" she said, and kissed him--not the peck on his cheek that he'd been expecting (and had planned a speech on its lack of appropriateness), but a full-on lips-tongues-and-teeth barrage that he was almost helpless to resist--almost. After a moment--well, more like a minute if he was being honest with himself--he disentangled himself and leaned backwards.

"Cadet, that was thoroughly inappropriate," he said.

"I know," she said. "But how else was I supposed to thank you?"

"A simple 'thank you' would have been enough." He tried very hard not to be amused--and turned on--and failed at both, shifting in his seat as discreetly as he could.

"But you enjoyed it," she said, with an insouciant grin, and kissed him again quickly. "Good night, Captain Pike." She ducked out of the 'car before he could muster a proper complaint.

He blinked a couple of times, and absently watched her rear end shift under the flimsy blanket as she walked up the path to her dorm. It wasn't until she was already inside that he realized she still had his jacket. Damn.
