Spoilers for Make Me Believe in here.
Confession time: I edited out some headcanon from Make Me Believe, against the wishes of one of my betas. However, it made it into the art post, so I thought I'd explain. I'm not necessarily a fan of revealing the Writer Behind the Cloth, so I'll try to make this short.
Here's what I wrote to
imachar: The way it actually goes in my head, and this is really silly and sounds like a mid-level rom-com to me and I know it: Thirty-odd years ago, before Phil-and-Alicia, Chris & Phil fell into bed. Yeah, that would put Chris at 20 or 21 and Phil at about ten years older, give or take a few years of headcanon since I didn't need to set an official age for Phil in this mini-verse. But it was only for one night (schedules conflicted) and then, before they'd had any sort of discussion as to whether this was only a totally ridiculous one-night stand (Chris was going to vote 'no,' for the record), Phil met Alicia, fell head-over-heels, proposed like 3 months later, and that was that on the romantic front. Inexplicably they stayed friends, and the rest is essentially history. Alicia knows all of this and doesn't in the least care. Mostly she thinks Chris is adorable, in that pat-on-the-head-even-though-he's-an-admiral sort of way.
So based on that, I had a few acknowledgments of the previous relationship in the original text.
Such as:
To be fair, the last couple weren't intended for publication; they were intended to make the betas laugh.
But anyway, here's the art, complete with amusing alt text. Enjoy!

Such as:
- Phil was originally on the list of 'sarcastic brunets' without an asterisk.
- This scene originally went this way: "Somehow I doubt you'll be as happy to see Lieutenant Scott as you will be to see McCoy."
"Lieutenant Scott didn't put my brain back together," Chris shot back.
"So it's gratitude, huh?" Phil leaned back in his chair. "Man, if I had a credit for every time one of my surgery patients wanted to get me in the sack . . . I'd have a credit."
"Shut the fuck up, Phil." He said it with maybe a little too much venom, but Phil's quip might have been funnier if Chris himself hadn't been the surgery patient in question both times.
"Chris," Phil said, gentler this time. "Consenting adults; I don't give a shit, never have. You know that." - Here's the alt version of this scene: "...my manual dexterity is at about eighty-five percent, according to the experts, although I was above average before so you might not notice any difference. Well--you're a surgeon. You might."
"Been with a surgeon before?" McCoy asked, one eyebrow raised.
"Yes. Don't think about it too hard. Anyway. I'm pretty much always in some amount of pain..." - And, last but not least, the bit from the arting: "Who's that in the picture with you?" [McCoy] asked.
"Don't recognize him?" Chris asked, grinning as he propped himself up against the wall. "Wait a minute or two."
McCoy did, and when the look of recognition dawned a few moments later, Chris's grin broadened.
"Shit. Please tell me you hit that," McCoy breathed.
"Uh, duh," Chris said, polishing his nails on his shirt. "Like the fist of an angry god."
To be fair, the last couple weren't intended for publication; they were intended to make the betas laugh.
