Thinking out loud
May. 23rd, 2010 07:35 pm(Not a fic; a blog entry. Sorry!)
(Ugh, my eyeballs hurt. I hate this time of year. Go away, cottonwood! I understand you're a very poplar tree, but . . . *rimshot*)
So I've signed up for both
startrekbigbang and (well, once signups open) the
oc_bigbang this summer, which sounds like fun. I know what I'm writing for the latter; that's not a problem, and it'll hit 15K easily.
The former, though. I've got a Really Big AU I'm kicking around, but . . . it's an AU, for one thing. (Not one that requires a lot of research or worldbuilding; I've played in this particular sandbox quite a few times before.) Also, it may get out of control (i.e., hit 50K) if I keep writing in the Proper Style. Third, I've got a lot of leftover characters, and given that the Proper Style requires a Certain Kind of Ending, the fact that poor Christine Chapel (and Janice Rand and Gaila and Scotty and Chekov and Sulu [who only appear incidentally] and even Colt) ends up partnerless is sad. But I don't want to just throw people together for convenience. (Maybe she can run away with Cait Barry.)
But the good thing about that AU is that it's one of the few styles for which the pacing and the plotting and, well, everything come reasonably naturally to me.
... but no one's gonna want to read it but me. *whines*
Well, I've got time. I can probably find something less self-indulgent to write.
