Book meme! From
boosette.
1) What author do you own the most books by? Uh, I think Charles de Lint.
2) What book do you own the most copies of? At the moment, I have three copies of England's Perfect Hero by Suzanne Enoch, but two of them will be mailed off. At some point.
3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions? Uh, yes.
4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with? I . . . this is a long list.
5) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children)? Probably Tam Lin, by Pamela Dean. Or maybe Lioness Rampant, by Tamora Pierce.
6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old? Alanna: the First Adventure, by Tamora Pierce. :-D
7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year? I can't remember, but I'm sure it was by Stephanie Laurens. (It's been more than a year since I read Twilight.) (And good God, I have, like, twenty SL books. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!)
8) What is the best book you've read in the past year? I haven't read much in the way of really, really good books, but I thought The Republic of Love (which I finished on Friday, and yes, I read it because of the movie) was good. I have a soft spot for Carol Shields, though.
9) If you could force everyone you tagged to read one book, what would it be? I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you'd like a clue on how to write PTSD, the aforementioned England's Perfect Hero (see #2) is probably a good one. It's not perfect, but it's a huge step better than most any other romance novels with heroes who have PTSD.
10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature? The next one? Heck if I know.
11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie? Anything by Tamora Pierce.
12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie? Twilight. Oh, shit, too late.
13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character. I used to have a set of recurring nightmares involving My Little Ponies . . . which doesn't actually answer the question, but is as close as I can remember.
14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult? I have read a significant number of Harlequin series romance novels. Also two boxes full of historicals. Lowbrow? Psh.
15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read? Ulysses. It took me another two books to understand it (ReJoyce! and something else on "understanding Ulysses"). Of course, I was in high school, so cut me some slack.
16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen? Measure for Measure. Bonus: all-male cast.
17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians? Well, I speak French and I'm half Quebecois, so probably the French, although the Russians produced some great composers.
18) Roth or Updike? Updike, although they're both misogynist egotistical asshats.
19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers? Sedaris, because his sister is funnier.
20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer? Shakespeare.
21) Austen or Eliot? Austen, although I adored Middlemarch.
22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading? Salman Rushdie? I don't think I have any big or embarrassing gaps. Not because I'm particularly well-read, but I seem to have read a little bit of everything.
23) What is your favorite novel? Memory and Dream, by Charles de Lint. At least, as I type this. These things aren't really set in stone, you know.
24) Play? Arcadia, by Tom Stoppard.
25) Poem? John Donne, Elegy XIX: To His Mistress Going to Bed. Or maybe Shakespeare, Sonnet 128. Or maybe Sylvia Plath, Mad Girl's Love Song.
26) Essay? I don't have one.
27) Short story? Oh, maybe Timeskip, by Charles de Lint.
28) Work of nonfiction? Beyond Heaving Bosoms, by Sarah Wendell & Candy Tan.
29) Who is your favorite writer? Pro? Charles de Lint. Nonpro? I can't pick!
30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today? Stephenie Meyer.
31) What is your desert island book? Tam Lin, by Pamela Dean.
32) And... what are you reading right now? I just finished Wicked All Day by Liz Carlyle, so I'm in between dead-tree books. I think I'll be reading House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones next.
